Some thoughts about Batman/Elmer Fudd #1

It's bat season in Gotham City.

Elmer Fudd is ready to kill Bugs unless he gives him the information about the man Elmer wants to kill the most, Bruce Wayne.

I... honestly thought this could have worked better.

At first I thought that Tom King's unnatural dialogue would be a better fit for this kind of crossovers but it sadly isn't and it can be pretty irritating at times. The story itself is fine with an interesting yet predictable mystery and a few fun moments BUT it gets quickly destroyed after how incredibly obnoxious Elmer's dialogue is. Yes, King is basing it on Elmer usual dialect but he could have implemented it in a much better way by using it in juat a few key moments, not making EVERY. FRIKKING. LINE. from him being insufferable. I was frankly tired of it after the second page and it just goes on and on and on until the conclusion of the story, is just too much.

Also, King's reinterprets a lot of the Looney Tunes as real people which is okay but at times it seems like he's trying too hard and they still sound silly despite of being human.

Lee Weeks' artwork is pretty good though with a lot of attention to detail and strong storytelling.

The second feature by King himself works strangely much better. It might be because of the more cartoony nature but the dialogue is much more fitting here (and strangely enough, Elmer's lines are not as bad here), not to mention that there are also quite a few fun jokes. Byron Vaughns' art is also a nice suit thanks to his cartoony tone.

Not the best thing this week but eh, what can I do?
