Jon is trying to learn more about his Kryptonian heritage just in time to learn how a culture in another world could doom them all.
James Robinson arrives here with a little storyarc and I'm pleasently surprised so far.
The premise about Jon trying to learn more about his father's origins is pretty solid and interesting, mind you, I don't think it might be quite accurate since while it makes sense for Clark to learn more about his past, it doesn't work as well as Jon (particularly because he's like ten or something). On the other hand, this presents a good opportunity to make both characters closer and Robinson does exploit that idea solidly based on their interactions, even the dialogue is more natural than in his usual work which makes the whole thing more believable.
There's also a compelling theme about religion and how the beliefs of some people might not represent an entire community (and something tells me that Robinson is not only talking about religion itself but also other current movements that are getting pretty close to it). This also works nicely to focus on premise he was setting-up about different cultures and ends in an intriguing cliffhanger.
Doug Mahnke handles the art and is a bit odd, is stil solid with expressive characters and clear storytelling but it lacks the same amount of polish from his usual work.
Aside from that, pretty enjoyable. Hope it continues this way.
