Is Hawkman too late to save history?

Carter Hall is trying to remember what happened to him and thanks to the help of an old friend, he will realize that his past is not his only concern but also the future that is awaiting him.

A new series for this classic character begins.

Robert Venditti was chosen to reestablish Carter Hall into this continuity after the events of the Metal crossover and while that was complicated as hell, the writer manages to do a good job at making Carter's story a bit more straightforward. The initial pages go straight to the point about who the protagonist is and what has happened to him all this time, this comes with a few problems like the narration that lacks style and is a bit too simplistic in the early pages where is describing the characters. Then again, this is compensated by a solid exploration of new mythos that are going to play an important role in the future.

Things start to get much better once that Venditti introduces Madame Xanadu into the story and connects her to Hawkman in an understandable way which reveals new aspects of his past that has never been shown before and they're admitedly quite interesting, especially how is related to other races aside from his classic ones.

On the other hand, I felt like this issue ended before it was getting exciting. I wish there was more story since it felt mostly like pure set-up but as it is, it was good enough.

Bryan Hitch's artwork gets the job done in terms of scale thanks to his widescreen style that creates interesting scenarios although I wish it looked more polished as a whole.

Decent beginning, hope it improves from now on.
