Jason has just received a letter, a letter that tells his father's history and what made him such a complicated man to care about.
I'm actually surprised at how good this was.
Yes, Scott Lobdell has been killing it for the most part in this book since it started, is the kind of revitalization he and the series needed but my God, I think this issue is in another level. The plot is centered around Jason's father whose story is finally revealed and turns out to be more complex than expected. As usual with Lobdell's characters, not all is black and white and this shows how much one person can care about others before the circunstances and their own nature get in the way.
This is perfectly reflected on Jason who is also dealing with the fact that his father might not have been as bad as he thought which culminates in a pretty strong resolution for him that perfectly showcases the conflicting emotions he feels. Even the little and subtle references to the Batuniverse are really well-done like how the fact that Two Faces hired Jason's dad by throwing a coin.
Trevor Hairsine handles the art and he's no Dexter Soy but still manages to create good character expressions and quite strong storytelling.
Fantastic read, probably one of the best this week.
