Diana needs to find a way to defeat her new enemies and that includes Jason in ways that not even her can't expect.
You know, one would think that issue 50 of any series is ought to bring a great story to celebrate the title but as we all know, James Robinson' run has been far and I mean faaaaar from great and so this special seemed like a complete waste before I haven't even opened.
And things don't get better once that I did.
First of all, Robinson tries to go full Final Crisis finale here with the final battle being told via flashbacks just when is already over and just like with Final Crisis, is a completely anticlimactic way to end a story. Mind you, unlike with Final Crisis, at least the actual battle has a huge presence in this chapter but just like with most installments of this era, it's one of the most underwhelming, derivative and by the numbers action segments that you can find and doesn't tell us anything new about Diana or her world.
But let's talk about the biggest waste here and this has been a common theme during this run: Jason. As I said before, Jason's appearance has been hyped for a while pretty much since the end of Geoff Johns' Justice League a few years earlier and considering how intriguing they made his background, is immensely disappointing to see a character so lacking in personality, presence and depth.
Speaking a bit about spoilers here, it turns out that he's not under the Dark Gods' control which is good since Lord knows I was tired of seeing him manipulated. What is bad though is that now he's forced to leave with them to stop them which makes his whole role in this book completely unnecessary, things could have gone completely the same without him since his introduction didn't change Diana's life and universe in any sense whatsoever. It's almost like he never existed.
Stephen Segovia, Emanuela Lupacchino and Jesus Merino share the pencils and they all do a solid job during their respective segments.
Aside from that, this run has been rather unremarkable and the only thing I can say about it and Jason as a whole is: Good riddance.
