Some thoughts about Superman #8

Whatever happened to Jon Kent?

Jon has been absent from Earth for years now and he just suddenly realized that Jor-El's intentions were not the best.

Okay, this is where the "At least Brian Bendis writes kids well" mantra dies.

Although to be honest, this is something that we all have seen coming since the first time he decided to handle the character of Jon Kent, in this chapter however, things have become rather blatant to the point that is indefensible. It turns out that Jon DID want to "find himself" and that's the reason why he decided to go on a journey with his grandfather (who he doesn't even know by the way) to learn why he's actually here.

And I have to ask: WHAT 11 YEARS OLD HAS THIS DILEMMAS?!

Seriously, what kid has this kind of questions about themselves? I mean, I could accept if this happened when Jon was an older teenager or something but right now this direction doesn't make sense in the slightlest. This is especially bizarre if you compare it with his current appearances in Adventures of Super Sons where he DOES act like a kid. This is bad characterization, plain and simple.

Oh, but it gets worst. Just now Jon is realizing that going to space with a complete stranger maaaaaybe wasn't a good idea and really, is all Bendis trying to justify that these characters made a mistake where he forcedly made them commit those mistakes in the first place. Is pretty hilarious to see Bendis trying to justify Lois' escape and leaving his son alone to be honest.

Oh, and also the cover is a lie and makes me suspect that plans are changing on the run which wouldn't really surprise me to be honest.

Good things? Well, the Crime Syndicate seems like is going to have a bigger role and Ivan Reis and Brandon Peterson's art is pretty solid during their segments.

Aside from that, this story just gets worse and there's not a lot of hope left.
