Can the Joker be treated?

A new psychiatrist is willing to try to cure the Joker but what he doesn't know is the darkness he evokes could be contagious.

The DC Black Level offers a new series and this time is handled by none other than the creative team of Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. I have been missing these guys since their days on Green Arrow and now they're back at DC Comics to create an interesting tale about Clown Prince of Crime.

The premise is about how a psychiatrist is treating the Joker in Arkham Asylum which is not an innovative concept by itself but as usual, Lemire's especiality is the polished execution and he doesn't disappoint here. The dynamic between the Joker and his doctor is handled nicely due that their conversations explore their different personalities perfectly and showcases how manipulative and mysterious the Joker can be, leading an idealist doctor into his trap and making him as insane as he is.

The plot plays a bit as a mystery since we don't know exactly how the Joker managed to control the psychiatrist or how he was able to inject himself into certain elements from his family but it does demonstrate the extend of his control and mind. Compared to other books from the same line, this issue doesn't offer much content but what it delivers does it greatly.

Sorrentino's art is fantastic from a storytelling standpoint, conveying all the right emotions along with the strange events that happen once that the madness spreads. It's great stuff.

Interesting beginning no doubt, can't wait to see more.
