Can the Justice League fight against their own wishes?

The team is insvestigating a new case but they might not be prepared for it since the Black Mercy has become more powerful than ever.

I wasn't really anticipating this one.

The name of Jeff Loveness doesn't inspire much confidence in me, I have tried a couple of his works, Tales of the Dark Multiverse: Death of Superman and a Shazam fill-in and they were painfully mediocre and in the case of Shazam, they were even insulting to the fanbase because for some reason the author thought it was a good idea to create an issue that denigrated Captain Marvel's characters and puts Batman on a pedestal at the same time, I'm sure the fanbase appreciated that.

And surprise, surprise! This issue is also centered around Batman! At this point is pretty obvious that Loveness mostly wants to write about the all so beloved Dark Knight so maybe DC should give him a fill-in issue there and stop from ruining other titles.

To be fair though, is not like this chapter ignores the rest of the cast. The Black Mercy allows for a look into most of their backstories and there are interesting references here and there including the deaths of some of them along with an appropriate homage to Alan Moore's For the Man who has Everything story where the Black Mercy was created.

Then we quickly go back to Batman fixating on the death of his mother. Neat.

Robson Rocha's artwork is always pleasent to see though with a vibrant style that creates intense action scenes and expressive characters.

Not necessarily bad but my God, try to hide your fanboyism.
