Some thoughts about Strange Adventures #5
Times are getting crueler.
Adam Strange continues to face the investigations against him but Alanna is not so worried about it because of what they had to endure in the past.
Okay, some of the themes are getting repetitive here (Tom King, you guess it) but is still a solid read.
King opens with yet another adventure on Rann and just like in the last issue, you start to see how both the romantic past and the realistic present are starting to converge, this time in a much more obvious manner. The battles both Adam and Alanna faced on Rann are getting much more complex where simply beating the enemy is not enough, in fact, King references how some of the early sci-fi solutions the characters used in the past just don't work anymore. The flashbacks themselves are clashing with other flashbacks in an interesting way.
It's even worse when you see what happens with the current case against Adam where media continues to play an important role in their view and Alanna's character is further explored and her manipulative side is being developed, how will this affect the future is a good question.
If I had a complaint though, and this is a big one, is that King references Booster Gold as "a 5 years old". Yeah, King doesn't have any right to denigrate a character when he destroyed them himself in other stories.
Mitch Gerads and Doc Shaner remain in their usual spots and once again, their job is stellar in terms of storytelling and style.
Good issue, hope the next one offers more perspectives.
