Who can save the universe of Metal?

Batman's ultimate plan failed in the Dark Multiverse and the only person who can save it will be eventually doomed for eternity.

I haven't been following the solicits for this line but if this the final Tales from the Dark Multiverse, then it will be a fitting ending.

Scott Snyder, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly offer a story where the protagonist is an adult Duke Thomas who was forced to adopt even more identities to survive. The plot takes place right after the heroes lose during the Metal event and the whole Multiverse went to hell with their biggest heroes corrupted by Barbatos. The desperation hold by the surviving heroes is palpable and probably creates a much more tense situation than the original Metal event.

The tale escalates quite quickly where the grim and gritty Justice League has to face their monstrous former friends in a battle where nobody is safe. The character moments are nicely executed, particularly how Superman thanks Dick Grayson after the latter finally frees him from his condition which makes sense considering their connection. Finally, Duke dares to ask the big question to Tempus Fuginaut which ultimately breaks the latter.

Karl Morstert handles the art and is very Frank Quitely-inspired which is usually a good thing since the author follows the script perfectly with a lot of detail.

Good read, wasn't a bad line despite of low expectations.
