Some thoughts about Batman #104

Who threatens Gotham City now?

The city is starting to doubt Batman after the many madmen who have attacked its people over the years and things are only going to get worse once that the Scarecrow reappers.

The James Tynion IV Batman era (sadly) continues but at the very least, he doesn't focus on overused ideas as much this time.

For one, this arc is centered around the Scarecrow getting a much more relevant role and I'm cool with this since he's not a villain that is frequently used and at this point I'm just happy that Tynion is dealing with anything else that is not the Joker... although he also used him during his Infinite Frontier segment so whatever. Still, this might make this storyline not as derivative as the others.

Second, Tynion comes up with a logical ramification from the constant attacks to Gotham City and it becomes political in the right kind of ways. Mind you, is not something that we haven't seen before, as expected from Tynion, but at least presents interesting opportunities.

Jorge Jimenez' artwork is extremely vibrant and elevates the script to new levels thanks to his creative storytelling. Tynion is very fortunate.

But this is the real reason why I picked this up, the beginning of Joshua Williamson's Robin work and as expected from the writer, we see several references to continuity including the time when Damian promised to his mother that he would be a worthy adversary. The story centered around Talia and him actually and a new status quo for the character that will most certainly properly developed. Really digged Greg Melnikov's semi-cartoony style that allows for clear expressions and details.

Decent read. More excited about Williamson's upcoming stories though.
