What is Batman's future?

There's a new Dark Knight in town while Bruce Wayne is still paying for his acts in prison and he will need the help of an old partner if he wants to make things right, except that an old enemy will also be on his way.

Is always great to see one of the greatest Batman universes return.

Right from the beginning, Sean Murphy demonstrated a great handle at creating an even more grim and gritty version of the Caped Crusader while also depicting it in a surprisingly logical and realistic way, Murphy's Batman is flawed, he knows and is willing to accept the consequences of it. Consequences that are further explored in this new series.

We're introduced right away to the new Batman, Terry McGuinnis. The difference is that, unlike in Batman Beyond, this Terry is guided by a completely different person, a person that could cause more harm than good which is something that sets Bruce into a new quest. The reappearance of Bruce is also handled in an interesting manner due that his relationship with his former partner, Jason Todd, is heavily explored and differs quite a bit from the classic continuity due that this Jason was apparently Bruce's first sidekick instead of Dick Grayson. While this might seem like an odd decision (and it is) at least the rest of their typical traits are kept intact and leads to solid character development to everyone involved.

Harley Quinn gets a compelling portrayal which is not surprising since she has been an important part of this line since the start. Everything that was cemented about her since the first book is appropriately developed here, particularly how her children reflect the toxic relationship she had with the Joker (and Bruce to a lesser extent) which also sets-up what's coming at the end.

Murphy's artwork continues to depict Gotham City in an extremely dark yet detailed manner while the storytelling is very clear and elevates what already is a pretty solid script.

Good beginning, can't wait for the next one.
