How can Batman go on?

The Shadow War is over but Bruce still has some issues he needs to fix concerning one of the people he recently met and hopefully it will bring more light to his life.

Joshua Williamson's run come to an end and while it was revealed a while ago that Chip Zdarsky would replace him soon, it still feels like a bit of an abrupt finale.

Williamson basically ignores everything that happened during the recent crossover to focus on his initial arc from this book and is actually pretty fitting I believe. The Abyss is back somehow and Bruce decides to find out what's actually happening in this situation which leads to a compelling dynamic between the protagonist and one of the supporting characters that Williamson created early on, is a pretty interesting conversation that actually reveals what happened to Bruce the first time he saw Joe Chill after he killed his parents and showcases a lot of what makes Batman the hero he is.

That being said, the plot is rather light and doesn't offer much beyond good character work, in fact it pretty much feels like an epilogue without too much fanfare which I suppose is fine (and actually works much better than James Tynion IV's final chapter) but I can't help but feel that there was more that could have been explored during this run.

Howard Porter and Jorge Fornes share the pencils and their work is pretty detailed, consistent and energetic during the course of the read.

There's a second feature about Poison Ivy written by G. Willow Wilson which serves as a set-up to her Poison Ivy series but to be honest it doesn't work that well at make you invested in about what's going to happen next in terms of the story, hopefully the proper book will work better. Dani's artwork is pretty expressive with an unique style though.
