Can Bruce Wayne find his way?
The final battle to gain Ra's Al Ghul's trust is about to end and no matter the result, Bruce will have to use everything he learned in a manner that feels true to himself.
The end of the beginning is here I guess and while I thought that Chip Zdarsky did the best he could with an overly-done premise, this was still a kinda average conclusion.Yes, the writer definitely nails Bruce's character and motivations which result in an appropriate set-up for everything that comes next but at the same time, it doesn't tell anything new or revolutionary about Bruce's origins. It's well-written, very well-written actually but as far as plots go, it doesn't offer anything actually compelling and the least interesting part of it is that it overuses characters like Ra's, Talia and worst of all, Ghost-Maker.
Yes, I don't know why Zdarsky thought it was a good idea to retcon one of the most creatively-bankrupt characters in recent years into Batman's secret origin when it was better to leave him forgotten from history, especially considering that people still had doubts about how creative this new origin story could be and, based on the conclusion, they were right on those doubts.
Carmine Di Giandomenico's artwork never disappoints though, he has been consistent over the course of the book by nailing the dark tone and follows the script perfectly.
Decent finale for a decent book but not that memorable in the grand scheme of things.
