Scott is trying to find a way to be a good father and that is more complicated than expected once that his new role as Highfather puts him in a war that could end his life.
This book continues and I love the juxtaposition here.
Tom King arrives with a new installment where he explores two different perspectives that are connected here, Scott's role as father and Highfather. The most charming part of the book is when we see Scott spending time with his son in a way that can be pretty relatable for new parents and one can't help but laugh whenever Funky Flashman is in any scene trying to be a good babysitter (and maybe even grandpa?) which is a fitting portrayal considering he's supposed to be a parody of Stan Lee (which includes his classic "Excelsior!" catchphrase) and the fact that the baby is called "Jack" makes this dynamic even more endearing.
These scenes are created specifically to contrast with the brutal responsibilities that Scott has to handle now thanks to his position as leader of New Genesis which is surprisingly not as interesting as the main section but still manages to create a good parallel towards the end giving Scott the strength to continue.
Mitch Gerards demonstrates to be a master storyteller thanks to the beautiful panels he creates that elevate the story even more.
