Who can protect Gotham's streets now?
Jason's return to his old neighborhood couldn't be more problematic due to the rise of a new villain who is willing to destroy everyone in it.
This series comes to an abrupt conclusion because of all the Future State stuff but despite of it, I must say that writer Shawn Martinbrough did a solid job with what he had to handle.The plot about Jason's return to his old place brings a lot of familiar faces to his life that are just recently introduced and again, while "Oh, they're old friends that just appeared in their lives!" is usually not the best direction, Martinbrough does a fine job at making you buy their dynamic while also creating an interesting background for all of them that contributes the theme of family.
Even more important though, is the new direction that is created for Jason that I wish was given more time to explore. The idea of Red Hood watching the streets of Gotham (Because let's face it, Bruce is mostly dealing with global or even universal threats these days) is pretty interesting and hopefully will be picked up in the future. The battle against the antagonist also feels appropriate although a bit too quick for the escalation that happened during last issue.
Tony Akins and Moritat share the pencils and they both do a solid job by keeping a consistent style with clear storytelling.
Good read, shame it had to end so quick.
