Whatever happened to Minute Man?

Terry is trying to figure out how to keep his superhero career when there are no Miraclo Pills anymore but his biggest problem is that nobody really wants him as their hero.

Once again, Mark Russell just nails it.

This chapter is mostly devoted to Minute Man and about how pathetic he can be, in fact from all of the D-list superheroes at the HEROZ4U office, he's probably the most lackluster. He depends on the Miracle Pills from which he gains superpowers for only 1 minute which is already pretty lame but even worse that they don't even manufacture those pills anymore! So he had to buy them from drug dealers at more than triple the usual price and last even shorter. Far from his only problem though since nobody really takes him seriously despite that, as he often mentions, they actually made a movie about him. Is an extremely pitiful case of a worthless superhero.

But that's where Russell makes this story work since yes, Minute Man is pathetic and yes, they make fun of him but there's a definite human side there that makes you understand the desperation and sadness that Terry is going through, something that ultimately makes him sympathetic despite of the ridiculous life he has. This has always being Russell's strength, creating genuine and heartful character work among all the satire he developes (Oh, and it was cool to see a little cameo from him promoting his best works like The Flintstones and The Snagglepuss Chronicles).

The ongoing plot also progress appropriately since Red Tornado's role in the office is at risk by a weirdly ambitious Power Girl and makes me wonder what's actually going on there.

Steve Lieber's artwork is great, he depicts each hilarious expression perfectly while following the comedic scenes as best as possible.

Great read, probably the best this week.
